      <image:caption>You may feel as if you are forced to live a restricted life as a result of your trauma—things you used to do, now feel more difficult or scary. You might feel like you have lost the freedom in your life that you once had—the freedom to have joy or live without being on guard. You may feel ashamed when you notice that other people don’t seem to live with so much avoidance. You may feel shame for the ways you react to situations. You wonder if you are overreacting and being “dramatic,” yet deep down you know that there is a reason your body is reacting this way. You may feel overwhelmed by the critical voice in your head that shames you and feel the temptation to protect others from your trauma by withdrawing from your relationships. Your inner critic’s voice may seem like the strongest voice in your life right now. You may be experiencing physical symptoms—insomnia, chronic pain, digestive issues, fatigue—that your doctor’s cannot find a diagnosis for. You may blame yourself for being… too weak too emotional too damaged to have healthy relationships You may believe that you experienced trauma because you deserved it–that deep down, there is something inherently wrong with you. You may feel hatred toward your body for putting you through so much–the anxiety attacks, the lack of sleep, the nightmares, the body tension and chronic pain…the list goes on and on. You may have decided that you would be better off ignoring your body and focusing more on thinking positive thoughts.</image:caption>

Often when I work with clients with trauma, I notice that they carry a sense of shame and sometimes even hatred toward their traumatic symptoms (hypervigilance, reactivity, avoidance, constantly feeling anxious or “on edge,” etc.). You may feel shame for your symptoms, wondering why you can’t be more trusting and relaxed as others. You are a magnificently well-adapted person. You have survived because your body did exactly what it needed to do in that moment.       <image:caption>You may believe that your true self isn’t enough to receive the affection you crave, so you had to learn that the only way to be valued and noticed was to become someone else. You may feel the need to hide behind a mask, fearful that if anyone knew the true you, they would walk away. No matter how much you play the role, you still feel as if you don’t belong. Perhaps you walk around with a deep yearning for connection, yet feel emotionally lonely and disconnected from others and yourself. You may feel shame for having any needs at all. As a child, you learned to be strong and self-sufficient. You knew that your parents wouldn’t meet your needs and so it was up to you to take care of yourself and, at times, your parents. At times, you may feel guilty for feeling unhappy. You isolate your emotions from others out of fear of being seen as a burden. Perhaps you find yourself longing for healthy relationships, but you find that the dysfunction of your past seems to creep into your adult relationships. It is hard to know what a healthy relationship would even look like.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Family Dysfunction - The truth is, the dysfunction you experienced, transformed, can offer you the gifts for authentic, deep connection.</image:title>
      <image:caption>Chances are, the family dysfunction that you experienced taught you to internalize the issues around you by taking on the responsibility to heal the brokenness you witnessed. On the one hand, this can often result in anxiety when you feel guilty for displeasing someone, resort to blaming yourself for the issues around you, or become overly self-sacrificing. As an internalizer, you may find yourself suffering in silence—on the inside, you are falling apart, yet everyone else sees you as someone who is strong and has it all together. The good news is that as an internalizer, you have some of the most beautiful gifts to offer a relationship. These gifts emerge when you are able to bring your sense of responsibility into balance and reconnect with the true self that had been suppressed. Your capacity for self-reflection and your intentionality in learning from your mistakes makes you someone who can approach relationships with intentionality. You may find that you are extremely in tune with the emotional states of others. As a friend, parent, or partner, this makes you someone who has the capacity to offer another person the love, affection, and attentiveness that you longed for as a child. The wounds that your family inflicted on you do not have to have the final word. By connecting with your true self and restoring a sense of balance to how you view your role in relationships, you will find yourself begin to experience a deep sense of belonging in your life.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>#1 Building a Foundation of Safety We begin by first establishing a sense of safety– safety and trust within our relationship as well as your own sense of safety and trust within yourself. Healing can’t happen without this foundation. We begin by meeting on a local trail, online, or in my office. Together we explore your story, build skills, and offer supports to your mind and body. By the end of this phase, you are equipped with the tools you need to go deeper and have a real encounter with yourself. #2 Crafting Our Adventure Together, we craft an adventure experience unique to you– your story, your joys, your therapeutic goals, and all that is unfolding within you. The adventure can be anything from a half-day rock climbing outing to a multi-day backpacking trip. The sky’s the limit! #3 The Adventure Through the use of wild spaces and our hand-crafted adventure, we explore your goals by leaning into them in an embodied way. For example, you may explore your own fears, your perfectionism, the way you self-abandon, your relationship with joy, your sense of trust…You may explore new ways to lean into trust and respond to yourself. Every adventure experience is different because it is tailored to you.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Backpacking &amp; Climbing Retreats: Join or create a retreat that aligns with the ways you want to grow and heal. These can be 1-5 day trips that are fully customizable and can include meditation, yoga, ceremony, adventure, processing, workshops, and solo wilderness experiences ($1050+) Adventure Therapy Intensives: These intensives are similar to the classic therapy intensives, with the difference being that we take the healing work outside doing an adventure tailored to your therapeutic goals. ($2750+) Therapeutic Adventure Session: This is tailored to your healing goals and can include hiking, snowshoeing, trail running, rock climbing, nordic skiing, etc. ($180+) Expedition Level Therapy: Have an outdoor objective that carries a lot of meaning to you? Let’s take it deeper and allow it to change your life. Wanting to run a trail ultra? Hike a specific route or mountain? The Expedition Level Therapy route is one that we would slowly work toward together. We may incorporate training for this objective into our sessions leading up to the main objective. ($TBD) *Expedition level objective is dependent on the objective and our skill level to accomplish this objective safely.</image:caption>
